The Charlotte School of Law is on the move. Currently, the school has offices in three separate buildings near uptown Charlotte, but will move soon to several floors of Charlotte Plaza office tower, where all the school’s facilities will be located. The new office space will double the school’s physical size.

This for-profit law school was founded in 2006 and belongs to the InfiLaw System of law schools, owned by Sterling Partners. It won full accreditation from the American Bar Association in 2011 and has the largest enrollment of any law school in the Carolinas. There are part-time day and evening programs as well as a full-time day program.

Charlotte School of Law has three major goals.

“We focus on student-centered outcomes and want graduates to hit the ground running,” said Interim Dean Denise Spriggs. “We want them to be practice-ready. We expect graduates to provide legal services to an underserved population, both in their regular employment as lawyers and/or in pro bono service. We also want to represent underrepresented groups in the legal profession.”

Since the school opened, students have provided more than 200,000 hours of pro bono services to the Charlotte community in school clinics and local nonprofit organizations.

The bar passage rate has been slightly below the state average, but the school is working to improve that with strategies that include enhanced writing classes for first-year students and a third-year credit course analyzing North Carolina law.
